The call for consultancy was to build the capacity of the Fair Trade Africa project team on project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting is recognition of the trend globally on strengthening PME and Learning. Given the broadened base of organisations, funding organisations, and philanthropic and development agencies with interest in Fairtrade, there was increased interest in evidence-based reporting. Internally Fair Trade Africa's desire to effectively respond to the needs of its producer members could be met by evidence generated from robust M&E systems to inform decisions on the most appropriate interventions to support members. MDS assisted Fairtrade in increasing effectiveness and competence in project monitoring, evaluation, and related reporting. MDS helped Fairtrade with the establishment of a robust MEL system and its application for planning, development of outcomes and respective indicators is dependent on Fairtrade staff with MEL expertise and competencies to lead the MEL process on behalf of Fair Trade Africa.
